Friday Five Learning

August 29th, 2003

Wow, what a week. Where did those two days go?

1. Are you going to school this year?
Yep, and probably next year too.

2. If yes, where are you going (high school, college, etc.)? If no, when did you graduate?
College

3. What are/were your favorite school subjects?
English and ancient history. They were my majors. I loved art and music too.

4. What are/were your least favorite school subjects?
Maths. I could have done really well in maths but it bored me senseless. I didn’t care much for geography or commerce either.

5. Have you ever had a favorite teacher? Why was he/she a favorite?
I had a crush on my science teacher. Eeep, hope he never reads this lol. My favourite teacher was probably my ancient history teacher, actually there’s two of them. Both of these guys had this amazing passion for history that you wanted to absorb from them and they were never ones to make you copy endless pages of notes. They put you in similar situations, made you think made you want to learn more.

Drifting

August 26th, 2003

I’m getting really bored with my course at the moment. I have a tendency to stroll through life looking at the pretty things and forget that sooner or later I’m going to have to actually do something. The problem is, I want to do about five different things at once. I want to do something with graphic design, want to keep studying IT, want to follow through with some studies in voice and maybe music production. I want to study and restore ancient artifacts, want to work with people who have lost their way in life, help them find it again. I want to teach, I want to act, I want to sing. I want to write, not for fame, but to feel the way I do when I write, when I slip into that other world.

Apparently doing that many things at once is pushing the multitasking edge a little too far but when you have so many aspirations on your plate, where do you start? That’s where I am at the moment, just drifting, not knowing where to put my feet down.

Change of Plans

August 24th, 2003

I asked Peter to let work know that he couldn’t go in on Saturday this week because I thought a bit of a weekend away was in order but you know what.. after all that, I didn’t even feel like going out.

The weather is partially to blame. It was miserable, rainy and cold on Saturday and then today has been so windy that the Simba won’t even go outside and my bird, Skeet, is still clinging to his perch for dear life. All that combined made for lack of motivation to do anything. So I stayed inside and read, watched old movies and cleaned the fish tank.

Heh, cleaning a 4 foot fish tank is one of those thankless tasks, like making a bed. Sure it looks nice for a while..but does it really make any difference? Of course it makes a difference technically because I have super healthy fish and all that good stuff but visually It’s all pretty much the same. Peter and I: Is the water clearer? Eh, I dunno, maybe a little. I can see the fish better, but then I could see them pretty darn well already. (smirky face)

I was also aspiring to be all Jamie Oliver like last night and made up a tasty little seafood pizza and a fruit and coffee teacake for afters. Both were very nice but it didn’t quite have the same visual flair as Jamie’s meals do. And how DO you chop like that without slicing your finger off? I’ve tried and I just end up having to slow down and stop massacring the food.

Friday Five

August 22nd, 2003

A sneak peak into my Friday.

1. When was the last time you laughed?
Peter made me laugh by imitating the elderly that dance around on those stupid red meat feel good commercials. For those of you who are looking at me strangely, you can see them for yourself. This page has them. Check out the third one with the oldies dancing up a storm. Yep, that’s what my Peter was doing..

2. Who was the last person you had an argument with?
Can’t really remember. Probably Peter about something minor. I can’t actually remember the big argument I had. I tend to put them out of mind once they’re over. I don’t really see the point in arguing, unless It’s for a just cause of course!

3. Who was the last person you emailed?
Someone regarding an eBay transaction.

4. When was the last time you bathed?
This morning. That’s what I’m going to miss about winter. Those hot showers in the cold mornings. Summer is just around the corner.

5. What was the last thing you ate?
That would be dinner, which was creamy mushroom chicken with pasta and vegetables.

:o Electric Dreams is on TV. I love that movie.

Who Says it’s Yours Anyway?

August 21st, 2003

Just an update. The site and design still stand. I only sent the email last night and I’m allowing a week before I take further action. Don’t think I take this stuff lightly. I don’t. I think It’s very wrong and have been supporting similar issues with artists and their online rights.
Imagine how they feel. Their work is their life, they put so much soul into them and to see them ripped, hacked apart and used on people’s websites, altered or recoloured. It is disheartening at the least.

Just in case anyone out there doesn’t realise how copyright protection works, a direct quote from the Australian Copyright Council.

There is no system of registration for copyright protection in Australia. You do not need to publish your work, to put a copyright notice on it, or to do anything else to be covered by copyright — the protection is free and automatic. There are no forms to fill in, and there are no fees to be paid. You do not have to send your work to us or to anyone else.

A work is protected automatically from the time it is first written down or recorded in some way, provided it has resulted from its creator’s skill and effort and is not simply copied from another work. For example, as soon as a poem is written, or a song is recorded, it is protected.

I believe that rule is world wide and doesn’t just apply to Australia.

Getting away from that subject for a moment. I’ve taken up The Sims again. Yep, last night I did some serious downloading of cars, furniture and a HEAP of skins. I’m surprised my game can even run with the load of stuff I have on there. I’m trying to build myself a little community this time. Trying to be strong and not give up after the initial joy of house building has died away. So far so good.

Although.. out of my three student roomies that were first in the neighbourhood. The two girls have fallen for each other and the other one has decided that dancing non stop in front of the portable stereo is more productive than attending work or even showering.. I think a little tightening of the reigns is in order!

I’m still keeping up with my exercise too! What is it, day 7 now? Longer than I thought I’d last anyway.

Copyright Issues

August 19th, 2003

As Xavier pointed out in my previous post, and thank you very much for letting me know ) Some guy has decided to steal my layout and make it their own. There isn’t even any attempt to make it original. It’s just been lifted and stuck back together!

Lookie here - www.rebirthapparel.tk.

Check out the source code. My Meta tags are still intact for gods sake. With my name clearly there. He even put his own copyright on the bottom. I’ve sent through an email and I’m hoping this person will comply. I spent many many hours on this design perfecting it for xhtml and all browsers and tweaking graphics etc. I don’t think It’s very fair now to have the thing just stolen and played off as someone else’s work.

When will people understand that??

Missing the Buffster

August 18th, 2003

I miss Buffy ( Mourning I am. I need to get myself the rest of the series on DVD. I’m having some serious withdrawals.

On other happening television related news, what is going on with Australian Idol?. Who is voting for these people? I must admit, reality shows kinda suck me in. I hate them with a passion and yet I can’t stop watching them. Plus I’m a hopeful singer myself so seeing these guys do their stuff is interesting.

The thing is, I believe people are voting for all the wrong reasons. They like the song, the guy is cute. STOP IT! Start voting on talent people! There was a girl, Cosima, on last night who did the most incredibly beautiful flawless performance. I had chills. It wasn’t a matter of taste, it was just plainly obvious. This girl should have gotten in and yet she didn’t. Why? Just like Lorena should have gone through last week. The quality of voice is what should matter, not looks, hairstyle, eyebrows?? It’s crazy! I’m so annoyed lol. You can view a bit of what I’m talking about if you like. Lorena and Cosima.

I even said to Peter, that’s it! I’m not watching it anymore, look at the people getting through.. but you know I probably won’t follow through with that little mutiny.

OUchie

August 17th, 2003

I am aching from head to toe. I’ve discovered muscles in places I didn’t even know I had. Today has been the third day of my exercise myself to a new me epiphany. Who knew that walking could be such hard work? I gathered all my laps of the plaza were at least doing something but no. The 40 minutes of walking I do in the afternoons has now redefined my understanding of the word.

I’ve also taken to the 20 minutes of toning and spot reducing after all that. Aches and pains everywhere. On the upside I have a lot more energy and It’s amazing how mood enhancing it can be so I’m determined to keep at it. Hopefully it will start to ease up the more I do it.

A little too much energy perhaps? I don’t know what to do with myself now.

I Live Here

August 15th, 2003

Friday Five

1. How much time do you spend online each day?
Too long probably. Hours. Depends on what I’m doing. I’m online to study too. At least 4. That’s a minimum.

2. What is your browser homepage set to?
Blank. When I open up my browser I’m too impatient to wait around for some site I don’t want to visit to load up in every window I open. Especially if I’m searching for something. Those sneaky sites that automatically set themselves as your start page. Grr..

3. Do you use any instant messaging programs? If so, which one(s)?
Yeah. Yahoo, MSN, ICQ. The usual.

4. Where was your first webpage located?
Angelfire. It was a personal site full of useless stuff. I was very proud of myself because I didn’t have to use the automatic wizard thing to set up my site and I actually put in my own html o Lol. It was a crap site really but It was all a learning process.

5. How long have you had your current website?
This one is almost a year old. Still a baby. I’ve had some kind of website for about 4 years.

More Medical Specialists

August 14th, 2003

I went to see my obstetrician/gynecologist today. About the 4th appointment I’ve had in the past six months. What a blog entry starter that one is! I’m not going to burden you guys with the intricate details of the whole experience and besides, it was just a check in today anyway.

Peter and I have been seriously discussing starting a family for the past few months. I think we both just know that It’s time, a feeling and everything in our lives is falling into place. He’s crazy about the idea, I am too although health wise there seems to be quite a bit to be done in preparation.

I’ve already had a heap of tests done, all of them being fine for now and she’s ordered another barrage of blood tests, cholesterol, rubella etc. I’m seeing her again in three months and in those three months I also have to make a serious effort to trim down a bit more. After the three months are up then all the ovulation testing, measuring, and sorting goes on.

I’m so glad I found a really lovely doctor who’s genuine in her love of this field and interest in her patients. I enjoy talking with her and she spells things out for me instead of just jabbering on in medical terms leaving me more confused about why I am there in the first place. She’s really nice.

So I’m on a bit of a mission at the moment. Getting healthier (trying to advise the Peter on doing so too : ) reading heaps of books and getting all excited about the whole prospect to put it mildly. I even bought myself some fancy new exercise gear today just to add motivation. )
