Searching for Knowledge

December 30th, 2006

I went on a pilgrimage for textbooks today. Let’s just say, it won’t be going in any history books. I didn’t find anything I needed. Not even anything similar. I think my problem is, I’ve been spoilt living in Sydney all my life. I can walk in to any number of the fifteen book stores in one plaza and find a plethora of information at my fingertips. I can find five different editions of the one book. You want to order what in? Don’t be ridiculous, we have seven of those on the shelf right now. Yes, I’m mourning my degradation of choice.

Of course, that in no way takes anything away from being close to my family again, being amongst nature, fresh air, gorgeous views of rolling hills and a rainbow of colours in the sunset. It’s so much better than having your bedroom lit up by the flashing of police sirens at 3am every weekend, or having 12 year old kids decide Friday night is the perfect time to pick off cars along your street. I’ll give up my fifteen bookstores to get away from that.

Anyway, luckily I’ve managed to find a lot of what I need on Ebay. Textbooks are damn expensive, getting them second hand takes the pain off a little.

Study can wait one more day however, it’s New Year’s Eve tomorrow and we have plans for dinner and then who knows after that. In the past couple of years, all of my NYE plans have been a quiet one with a few friends, or just reflecting on where I’m at. It will be nice to be doing something different this year.

Find out how your mind works

December 28th, 2006

Some researchers say that men can have ‘women’s brains’ and that women can think more like men.

Find out more about ‘brain sex’ differences by taking the Sex ID test, a series of visual challenges and questions used by psychologists in the BBC One television series Secrets of the Sexes

Back to Reality

December 27th, 2006

I have adopted myself an annoying head cold. I can’t think, can’t hear, can’t taste. I blame it on being out last night in freezing weather, but then I was under the impression that catching a cold from being in the cold was just an old wives tale. So maybe not? Either way, I hope it finds an exit soon.

I had to buy a torque wrench today. Buying a tool when you have no friggen idea what the hell the tool does or why is not an enjoyable experience. Ok I had some vague idea of it’s purpose but I didn’t know the particulars. 1/2, 1/4, need this bit and maybe an extension, whatever, just give me the tool. All I knew was, I need to put together a bike and the bike putting together called for a torque wrench. Let’s just say, the tool guy, who obviously knew absolutely everything there was to know about tools, was less than impressed at the fumbling attempt at asking a question. You could tell he was dying a little inside because of the unintelligible words reaching his ears.

Anyway the wrench was bought. The bike however is still not up and won’t be until I am a little less sneezy and a little more clear headed.

I’ve started back into studying again. Books all over the floor and what not. I also need to get a few pages up on this site: About, resources, etc. Plus I want to get a little more into Broken Sword : The Angel of Death which I recently got my hands on. After finishing Dreamfall 2 a while back, I’ve been craving similar genres ever since so I was really happy to stumble across the knowledge that the fourth Broken sword was out.

Hail Storm

December 21st, 2006

It’s the first month of summer here. About two hours ago we watched the storm approaching. It didn’t look right. The clouds looked almost like smoke and they had an ugly green hue to them. I was running madly around the house looking for my keys to get the car into the garage just in case there was going to be hail and got it in just in time.

You could hear a loud deep roaring sound coming from the south and then the rain came pelting in sideways, followed by hail the size of golf balls. The sound was deafening, James and i had to scream to hear each other. The ice was bouncing off the ground about 10 feet into the sky again. I thought the back door glass was going to break.

Anyway, this is the during and aftermath.

Literally seconds after the storm set in

Our Driveway

Across the street

This had started melting, they were bigger than this

I like toast

December 21st, 2006

I have thrown myself into the deep end and taken up study again. I actually like study which is the complete opposite of how I felt when I was at school. I did great up until year 10 then I decided, to hell with the study bs! and I set out to discover myself a more meaningful social life.

Needless to say, the academic side of my life became rather non existent but my god were there parties! I became quite the regular holder of most of the senior year get-togethers, some I’d rather sooner forget, I like to nudge those ones into the selective memory.

So now I’m doing the HSC again. Why on earth would I want to put myself through that kind of torture for the second time? Because I can aaand because I want to go to UNE and on the side there’s a kind of, because I have to prove I’m not a dumbass reason. It’s a challenge really. Something I need to do. I was getting first and seconds in my class until I discovered vodka and the opposite sex…that’s where I decided, to hell with math.

So after I drag myself away from youtube and the computer in general, I may just consider studying, after I get the rest of these xmas presents wrapped, and make some tea.. and toast.

Coming up for air

December 19th, 2006

Holy crap it’s done. I have been procrastinating the hell out of this “get my blog back up” project. I could use being busy as an excuse but aren’t we all at some point? There’s always a few moments of the day to get something you need to do, done. Anyway.

I’m not finished it entirely yet but the majority of it is buckled in and ready to go. I have a heap of random thoughts and moments of pure dread to pass onto these pages but those will have to wait until my brain feels less pudding like.

So, right, Christmas is upon us. Yes I’m only saying this less than one week before the big event but if the regurgitation of christmas lights that found itself onto my neighbour across the ways house is anything to go by, please let it pass quickly and painlessly. Shopping seems endless, there’s always something else, or someone else you forgot. Why do we do this to ourselves each year? I could feed a small country with what this street has spent on their electricity bills this month.

Ours will just be low key this year. Money has been splurged on moving, house, bills, setting up of much needed high speed internet once again (because you know, you have to get your priorities straight) This has left us with rather empty bank accounts.

I wonder if soaps on a rope will pass as artistic merit?
